Below is a color wheel , all hair color has a letter and a number on its label , the letter describes what color base is in that color .
The number is the hair colors level from dark to light.
R = red base V = violet base G = ash base (green)
B = blue base Y = yellow/gold base V = violet
N = neutral ( neutral tones are not used a lot in corrective color )

1 black 7 medium blond
2 dark brown 8 light blond
3 medium brown 9 lightest blond
4 light brown 10 ultra light blond
5 lightest brown
6 dark blond
If your hair has to much of any of these color tones , you need to pick a color with the same or deeper level with the opposite color tone from the tone your trying to cut out from the chart below .
figure out what the tone is that you want to cut out , then go to the color wheel below and go to the opposite tone on the other side of the wheel . Pick a color that is the same level or darker than the one on your head with the tone that you have located on the color wheel , and apply .
