Within a month after you tint your hair it will grow approximately one- half inch.
The hair that grows out and is not tinted is called new growth , or roots .
It will take the full amount of timing to tint the new growth ( approximately 30 to 45 minutes ). Do not apply the tint to the hair that has been previously tinted. It is already chemically processed and will be damaged by more processing.
Apply to roots only
Apply the hair color (tint) to the new growth only. ( ROOTS )
Leave the tint on the hair for the full amount of time as recommended on the box.
If the color of the previously tinted hair has faded or lightened, you may apply the tint ( run through ends ) for one to five minutes of the total processing time only.
permanent hair color applied on virgin hair ( hair that has not been previously colored ) is applied by putting the color all over entire length of hair ( from root to ends ) then processing the desired amount of time . usually 30 min for hair that is not gray and 45 for hair that has 30% or more gray .
Please note : when applying a ( permanent) red tint to hair , it is sometimes necessary to use a different shade on root area to prevent the color from appearing too bright at root area . The easy fix for this problem is to either use a non ammonia (demi permanent) hair color . Or if your using hair color with ammonia (permanent color) then mix in 1/2 and 1/2 a color with the same level but with a neutral or even in some cases an ash base , with the color you originally chose . Apply this formula to roots only , apply the original formula to the ends and process entire head for the desired length of time .
